I am so very appreciative of your ideas and suggestions. In fact, I kind of thrive on them.

Take for example the chat I had recently with Michael Rasmussen. He suggested that we create a vehicle for helping recruiters and sourcers looking for work. I thought his idea made a lot of sense. Did you know that nearly four in ten companies said they were likely to have layoffs in 2024? Yeah, kind of depressing. But it does not have to be. Somebody is hiring. Actually, quite a few somebodies. Check out this quote from Onward Search.

Despite slowing economic growth, 85% of hiring managers indicate their companies are likely to hire talent this year, based on the data obtained from our 2024 Hiring Trends survey. In addition, over 40% admit their teams are currently understaffed, listing employee turnover as the top reason for new jobs opening. The latest US jobs report (Feb 2024) supports our findings, showing there are currently more jobs open than talent available for hire.

So, how can SourceCon help the unemployed members of our community? In the very near future, we will be launching a job search webinar full of innovative job strategies and a couple of related surprises. We are excited about it. Stay tuned for more information! We are still working out some details.

But that was only one of several chats I had recently from the community. Someone else submitted ideas for cool merch. How cool was it? Its cool enough to be featured in the SourceCon merch store later this week. As to who gave the inspiration, you may want to keep a watchful eye on our Instagram account. I tend to debut merch over there first. And just because I can’t resist, here is a partial image of one of the two designs debuting this week.

Mystery Merch

Okay, I think that’s all I have for my newsletter comments this week. I’m holding back on another community announcement because I need to double-check something. I think it will inspire several of you once you hear about it. (Insert cryptic smile here.)

See you (soon) at SourceCon!

How To Source Hidden Talent from Patent Lawsuits

by: Jim Stroud

As I scanned over the article (sorry, I was multi-tasking) a segment of the article jumped out at me. This one is a quote. Despite the thousands of patents awarded every year, cases where major companies sue each other or mount ITC challenges over patents are rare, which is partly what makes one like this fascinating, according to Jonathan Stroud, general counsel for Unified Patents, a patent advocacy organization based in Washington. Maybe its because the guy they quoted shared my name (no relation) or maybe it was because of the rarity of ITC challenges. Whatever the reason, a little light bulb popped off in my head. Using Inmail Reporting to Track the ROI of Your Inmail Templates

by: Ashley Surratt

I know LinkedIn frowns on using templates, but you can gain a lot if you use them correctly. I like to create templates representing 80% of my message, and I have to fill the other 20% with personal information on their profile or other sources. Did you know you can track your messaging templates’ ROI in the Inmail reporting features? This is a great way to do some AB Testing without spending a lot of time manually tracking. How do you know what message works best if you don’t test it? (SourceCon)
