SourceCon: New contest, new video series, and something... different.
Stay tuned. You never know what will happen next. ;-)
SourceCon Community,
Can you feel the excitement? I can. Its that SourceCon is almost here kind of excitement and it makes me wanna’ dance!
Okay, let me calm down and attend to some business. Are you a last minute kind of shopper? Don’t let April sneak up on you and you’re left suffering severe FOMO. Register now! (Use my code SCS24 and get 10% off. You’re welcome.) And if your budget is holding you back, I get it, there is a contest going on now that is giving away an in-person ticket, provided you beat the mini-hackathon. Act fast on this as the prizes are extremely limited.
Also, I want to give a big thank you to everyone who has been sharing, commenting and liking “The Source!” video series that posts on all of our social media channels every Thursday at 1:00 pm EST. An easy way to catch up on episodes you may have missed is to subscribe to our YouTube channel and hit the notification bell so you are notified when a new episode drops.
In the very near future, like the day after you read this probably, a second video series will launch. It is also called “The Source!” which, as I think of it now, I should probably rebrand later so its not confusing. (Hmm… Maybe “The Source Interviews…” If you can think of something better, tell me.) What makes this video series different from the series you know and love, is that it is interview driven and very short.
Pretty much what I do is interview someone for 30+ minutes then, I cut the best parts into a series of 2-3 minute clips. In a way, its like a podcast for people to busy to listen to podcasts. Make sense? My first guest is Kevin Grossman, VP of Research for ERE. We talked a lot about the Candidate Experience (CandE) Benchmark Research and Awards Program, the data he collected and his analysis of the information. What I appreciated the most from our chat was how impactful the candidate experience was on sourcing. Go figure.
Click here, or on the image below, to take a sneak peek at what’s to come.
Finally, I am always open to a quick chat, ideas, and suggestions for making your SourceCon experience the best it can possibly be. That being said, do not be shy about hitting reply and talking to me. I am here to serve you. Cool? Cool.
See you at SourceCon!

Finding Calm in the Chaos: Stress Relief for Recruiters
Does thinking about your week ahead invoke anxiety? Ever have Recruiter dreams about deals falling apart? Candidates not being prepared? One of my recurring dreams is forgetting to document my activities and not getting credit (paid) for my work. In general, I feel like the word “stressed” is highly overused. But, whether you’re in an agency or a corporate recruiter, the stress is real. Recruiting is highly rewarding, but it’s also packed with pressure.
Building and Managing Pipelines and How You Can Do This Using Outlook
When talking with recruiters, I often hear that I have reached out to everyone. I typically ask them what that looks like. Too often, it is one reach out and no response, but it can take multiple reach outs and time to get someone interested. Many recruiters need to store the potential candidates they contact for future roles they have to fill. They keep performing the exact searches repeatedly, starting over every time they have a role open and not helping their future self be successful. This is where building and managing talent pipelines can help.
Anchoring for better candidate engagement
Anchoring is a subtle technique of influencing someone’s decision-making process by using visual or auditory cues. The goal is to guide their decision toward a desired outcome without them realizing it. While it is unethical to manipulate people, if used to convey true information, it can help a person make an informed decision.
Tending to your Talent Garden to sow seeds of trust in a competitive labor market
Creating a garden can be one of life’s most rewarding yet time-consuming hobbies. The time you spend picking the best seeds, starting your seeds inside, preparing the outside ground for planting, and then watering through the hottest months will reward you when your plant finally blooms or produces fruits! The biggest rewards directly correlate to your work, and the same can be said for our sourcing efforts. As I prepare and tend to my garden, my sourcing efforts start with a strategic plan and continue with ongoing touchpoints to keep potential candidates interested and engaged, even if they aren’t ready to make a move right now!
